Minutes, Business Meeting
Annual Meeting Michigan Chapter Society for Neuroscience
Eastern Michigan University, Marriott Hotel, Ipsilanti
5 May 2000

Dunbar Proposed a vote of thanks to Brandi Soldo and Sean Donevan for organization of an excellent meeting.  Seconded by several members and approved by all.

Cobbett Pointed out that minutes of Council meetings during the year are posted at the Chapter website.

Lookingland Reported that the finances for the Chapter (before paying for the meeting) look very good.

Dunbar Reported that council had recommended that the Chapter Award be renamed the Montford F. Piercey Award in memory of Dr Monty Piercey who was a major “shaker and mover” in the Chapter and who died in May 1999.  Reported that Pharmacia Inc, Dr Piercey’s employer, would be funding the Award.

Reminded attendees that activities of Chapter members during Brain Awareness Week 2000 are illustrated on posters being displayed in the Poster Session.  Encouraged attendees to attend the Poster session and the presentations by the McCarthy Award and the Chapter Award winners (to follow the Business Meeting).

Reported briefly on the rationale for changing the meeting format (switching the keynote address(es) and poster sessions).
