Background
SfN's Chapters Graduate Student Travel Award honors outstanding graduate students nominated by their local SfN chapter. The award provides a stipend to help defray travel expenses and provide complimentary meeting registration fees.
Awardees are chosen based on the scientific merit of the abstract, evidence of outreach activities, and letters of nomination from the principal investigator or mentor and the local nominating chapter.
Eligibility
- The nominee must be the first author of an abstract to be presented at the annual meeting.
- The abstract must be of the highest scientific merit.
- The nominee and his or her advisor must be members of SfN; their membership ID numbers must be provided.
- The nominee must be a graduate student who has advanced to candidacy for a PhD.
- Only one applicant from a given laboratory may be considered by a chapter in any given calendar year.
- A nominee may not be nominated for an award two years in a row.
- The nominee may not be a recipient of another SfN travel award in the same year.
Application Information
The following materials are required for nominations:
- Completed application form (Word .doc)
- Copy of the abstract submitted for the SfN annual meeting
- A one-page leter of recommendation from the nominee's mentor/advisor commenting on the nominee's contributions to neuroscience research
- A one-page curriculum vitae from the nominee, including the following information:
- Education (including the date at whicthe nominee advanced to Ph.D candidacy)
- Honors/awards
- Publications (abstracts and manuscripts)
- The chapter representative must submit a one-page letter of nomination describing the selection process employed by the chapter (e.g. number of applicants, number of committee members making the selection, and voting process for the selection); further, the letter should describe the nominee's involvement in and contributions to their chapter

Background
SfN's Chapters Postdoctoral Trainee Travel Award honors outstanding postdoctoral trainees nominated by local SfN chapters. The award helps defray travel expenses and provides complimentary meeting registration fees.
Awardees are chosen based on the scientific merit of the abstract, evidence of outreach activities, and letters of nomination from the principal investigator or mentor and the local nominating chapter. A total of 25 awadees are chosen.
Eligibility
Each chapter may submit a single nomination to the SfN Membership & Chapters Committee. The nominee must meet the following criteria:
- The nominee must be the first author of an abstract to be presented at the annual meeting.
- The abstract must be of the highest scientific merit.
- The nominee and his or her advisor must be members of SfN; their membership ID numbers must be provided.
- The nominee must have a PhD.
